The Schwan-STABILO group operates world-wide and is wholeheartedly committed to the world of pens and pencils. In 1865 Gustav Schwanhäußer bought a company by the name of Großberger & Kurz. The company he renamed 'Schwan-Bleistift-Fabrik' has since become a group that enjoys international success and has remained in the family for five generations. Now named Schwan-STABILO Schwanhäußer GmbH & Co.KG, the company was converted into a holding company in 1996. In the 2006/2007 financial year the company had nearly 3,300 employees and generated a turnover of over €340m.

A keen interest in innovative products and production processes has always been central to the company's culture. Some of the now legendary examples include the first coloured copying pencil, which was introduced to the market in 1875. In 1927, the cosmetics division was born: the first eyebrow pencil was a huge success with the ladies. The launch of the "STABILO BOSS" highlighter in 1971 was equally spectacular. This "reading pen" remains the world's best-selling highlighter to this day.

At Deuter we have been manufacturing backpacks for more than 110 years. Already in the 1930s there was an early highlight with the Deuter "Tauern" backpack. At its time it was the measure of all things. The "Tauern" was also present when the Nanga Parbat was first conquered in 1953. About 20 years ago the Deuter think tank developed the meanwhile legendary and often copied "Aircomfort System" for a ventilated back. Many products add to this list - from the first bike backpack "Bike I" to the invention of the TÜV-GS (German independent testing and assessment services) certified kids carrier to the also TÜV certified backpacks with back protectors.
