Pen Pioneer Günter Schwanhäußer has passed away
15.09.2014 – Schwanhäußer Industrie Holding GmbH & Co. KG
Günter Schwanhäußer, inventor of the STABILO BOSS high-lighter, died last Friday at the age of 86 after a brief illness. In a career spanning more than fifty years between 1950 and 2003, he made great contributions to the global expan-sion of Schwan-STABILO, which has been owned by the Schwanhäußer family since 1865.
He had a pragmatic attitude: "The best thing to do is to roll up your sleeves and
get things done.”

With entrepreneurial foresight, he made successful decisions that have shaped the company to this day. A down-to-earth businessman, he landed his greatest coup in 1971. Günter Schwanhäußer introduced the first highlighter with fluorescent, neon yel-low ink onto the market. It is an invention that significantly changed the way we deal with texts, even to this day, and so far over two billion have been sold.  For this achievement, he was included in the list of the most significant inventors of the 20th century.
He was awarded Germany’s Federal Cross of Merit in 1986 for his voluntary work in numerous cultural and social fields. He was an honorary British consul for many years, and in 1995 he received an OBE.

A passionate hunter and horse enthusiast, in the last decade he dedicated himself pri-vately to an environmental project he had initiated in Croatia, in addition to his other voluntary works.
